NOTE: I received a copy for review purposes. Opinions are my own. This book talks about ways to achieve those goals, and free up the time you take searching for things in a pile of clutter (or cleaning it all!)
The book mostly contains a lot of common-sense things one can do to clean quickly and get rid of clutter (like asking yourself if this object you're holding onto really serves any purpose in your life and makes you happy). It also goes into the KISS method and talks about minimizing more than just the clutter on that shelf or table. The inbox, for example, is a huge issue for a lot of people, and Tolga gives tips for taking back control of it. Plus, he talks about learning to say no,
The author's straight-forward style can seem a bit dry at times, and I do think some advice goes a bit far (I still am distrustful of putting everything in digital format. Even with cloud, things can happen). Still, there are gems in it, and I found the advice in this book inspiring. Too often, we let the small chores that can be done in minutes until they balloon into things that will take ages to get through. He advocates doing these little things as you go along, so that they don't end up taking up big chunks of your day. It's a hard habit to get into, but I firmly agree with him about it being an important one.
The explanation of the KISS method is accessible, and really does need to be applied in pretty much any situation. While I read it in one shot in order to be able to type up this review, I certainly recommend reading a bit at a time and doing the activities in the book as your reach them.

Minimalism Right Decluttering for More Order Time and Freedom edition by Selim Tolga Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews
I enjoyed reading through this book. My husband and I have decided to do a major overhaul of our home and declutter. I realize I have a hard time letting go of things that have an emotional connection, but realize it's taking up space if I don't use the item. The section in the emotional attachment was helpful. The 4 step process will help us make decisions as well as being our children get more organized. Our kids are old enough that before taking out a new item they are capable of putting the other toy, book, game or whatever they are using back where it belongs. I really found it interesting how to apply not only minimizing things in your life but also the people in your life. I struggle with saying no. I hope some of these tips will help me get over it. Saying no is for a better me. The chapter about digital organization was very interesting as well. I feel that will help my husband and I organize our office space. We no longer need to keep paper receipts, but can get a document organizer, scan then and keep them in a digital file. I can't wait to apply these methods to getting our home back. I'm going to gave my husband read this before we start the large purge of our belongings. I received this book at a discount in exchange for my review.
The minimalism lifestyle is designed to free up mental, emotional, and physical real estate so you can concentrate on the things that really matter or, as Tolga writes, "minimalism in possessing, doing, and thinking—for more order, time, and leisure."
I once sold and gave away most of my possessions and moved into a 39-foot RV. I loved the simplicity and that I was constrained by space and weight from acquiring "things." But around 8 years ago I lost my business, home, RV, everything. I lived in poverty for 7 years and began holding onto everything. Do I really need that shelf liner paper I bought 6 years ago? Why have I carried various electrical cords, the uses for which I no longer know? And those needles I needed to hydrate my cat three years ago who has now passed?
Mine was a spiritual problem of fear. Fear I wouldn't have the money to buy something I needed. But the piles grew, and I grew increasingly incapable of even thinking about cleaning things up. I lose so much time trying to find things. And the piles are such a mental burden sapping me of precious energy. That's what "stuff" does.
Tolga is spot on when he writes "People who suffer from inner disorder (depression, suicidal thoughts, ambivalence, desperation, low self-esteem, guilt feelings, difficult life circumstances, fear and panic disorders, phobias, compulsions, eating disorders, etc.) often also live with outer disorder. There is a lack of strength, desire, and energy to clean up, and the disorder mirrors the person’s health situation."
Well, I've been doing a lot of spiritual work since last year to overcome my fear and other limitations. I cocooned myself so that I could transform into something new, and now I'm leaving the cocoon. Lately I've been getting intuitive messages to let go of that which no longer serves me. I bought large constructor garbage bags. Then I was asked if I would review this book. Of course!
Tolga takes the reader through a process of identifying what is important and what is loved to help determine what is not needed. He provides a simple system for clearing out all that is unnecessary to one's "mission" and happiness. The first thing I did was deactivate my Facebook account. Then I started unsubscribing to newsletters. I haven't started physically yet with my home, but I know where I'm headed.
As a "book," I rate this at 2 stars. I tired quickly of the repetitive nature of Tolga's writing and his excessive use of the word "minimalism" as though he was writing for SEO or attempting to bloat his word count. It seemed like the first few chapters were one long introduction promoting the benefit of minimalism. I almost quit reading because he didn't seem to be going anywhere but around and around. I pushed through and read it and then read it again. The book seems "slapped together." He really needs a good editor.
DISCLOSURE I received this book for free in exchange for my review.
