Debra Green offers excellent insight into selling ad space by getting to know your client and having a positive attitude. Her advice is is spot-on and insightful. You can put her suggestions to work immediately. A book I will be reading over and over when I need a bit of inspiration or confidence building.
I was pretty much blown away by this book. I don't normally take the time to write book reviews, but how has no one else reviewed this yet!? It's easily 5 stars, one of the most helpful books I read all year.
I was hoping I'd get a few insights on selling ad space, and sure enough I got more than a few. The author's advice is solid, and easy to put into practice. She also provides a few interactive quizzes throughout the book that I found pretty effective to gauge my own business practices, and to determine how I can best improve.
But what makes this books shine is the depth it provides. Sure the focus is on selling ad space, but it builds on a wealth of deeply insightful practices for building general professional success. That puts it in line with some of the best self-help books I've read and re-read, and it provides a strong base for the more detailed advice specific to selling ad space.
The book is sensibly broken down into three general sections
* The power of positive attitude and goal setting that gets results
* Getting that all important nod to close the sale
* The anatomy of the presentation
The first section alone is worth the price of admission! There is so much good general advice packed into a few pages. The second and third sections get down to the nitty-gritty of selling ad space, while keeping tons of good advice flowing.
Overall it's a ton of great advice, densely packed into a small number of pages. I found it useful to read slowly, while stopping every few pages to consider how I can apply the book's wisdom to my own business.
I'm a newbie at trying to sell as space and I found this book to be extremely helpful. The book is very easy to read and to comprehend. I would highly suggest it to anyone starting out in this type of business.
